Tips on using transparent IV dressing
The safe fixation of the indwelling needle is closely related to the safety of clinical infusion. Many complications we are familiar with may be caused by poor fixation of the catheter.
Possible problems caused by poor fixation of catheter:
1. The patient moves the peripheral venous catheter in the blood vessel repeatedly during the activity
2. The tip of the catheter penetrates the fragile vessel wall
3. Noncorrosive/corrosive drugs entering the surrounding tissue
4. Mechanical phlebitis
5. Continuous friction/stimulation causes inflammation of the vascular wall
6. Tube plugging/thromboembolism
7. Platelet adheres to the catheter tip and agglomerates
Tips on using transparent IV dressing:
Step 1: hold the film without tension and align the transparent part of the dressing with the puncture point
Step 2: shaping: kneading
Step 3: press the whole dressing from inside to outside
Step 4: Close the gap of the dressing under the catheter and press it to make sure it is firmly pasted
Step 5: tear the border and press
Step 6: the auxiliary tape shall be pasted to cover the needle seat of the catheter, and the gap of the dressing shall be pasted and closed
Step 7: record the tape to record the operator's information, and take another tape to lift the platform to fix the extension tube of the retention needle
